This was shared with me by a fellow colleague at Troy University. It really made me think about when I assigned students to a back corner in my classroom.
If you put me in the back corner because I cannot behave,
Then I will entertain them all and most certainly not behave!
If you put me in the back corner because you think I cannot learn,
Then I promise to learn something, but it may not be what you expect!
If you put me in the back corner because you don't like me,
Then I will not learn to like you, others, or myself!
If you put me in the back corner because you do not want to look at me,
Then you will never know exactly who I am!
If you put me in the back corner to make your life oh so easy,
Then you have lost your purpose and forgotten why you teach!
Maybe we can learn from this that every classroom is different,
Maybe we don't need a back corner because no one will succeed!
So you and I must work very hard to make our back corner,
a place for all to succeed, a place where all can learn!
